COURSE


Our course is for parents/primary care-givers of persons with intellectual & developmental disabilities.


It will have the following modules:

Module 1

From 0 to 1 (Basics) :

  • This module will comprise of biology related basics of bodily changes occurring in any individual as he/she grows. Many mothers express their inability to comprehend what is going on in their sons’ bodies & minds as they themselves are females. Looking from other side, fathers should also have clear understanding of the bodily changes occurring in girls. This module is to address this gap.

Module 2

Puberty Trek :

  • (Age group :10-16 years) Herein we will be addressing the problems faced by parents during puberty and how they can effectively deal with them. This module will also include topics from teaching children the concept of privacy to maintaining proper hygiene to the concepts of private time and private space.

Module 3

What after puberty? (16-30 years, after 30?)

  • Herein we shall ponder about what is to be done after Puberty. What happens after 16? How to manage the sexual issues and address sexual needs in early adulthood? We shall also try to discuss what happens after 30?

Module 4

Protection from Sexual Abuse :

  • Right from introducing the concepts of good touch and bad touch to actually how to teach the special needs children & adults these concepts and other concepts, this module is needless to mention one of the most important. Sexual abuse is a big problem. It is definitely serious in the case of girls but not less serious in case of boys too !
